The Liar's Club w/ Celebrity Guest Panel! Y Arts Annual Fundraiser

Saturday | October 20 | Ant Hall

Featuring:
Craig FahleMarc Evan JacksonAntoine MckayPaula Tutman

Each year, Y Arts Detroit, the arts and humanities branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, hosts a live performance fundraiser event to raise awareness and support for their many youth and family arts programs in Metro Detroit. Our 2018 event, The Liar’s Club is a fun and exciting interactive live game show featuring local and national celebrity guests, hosted by Y Arts Teaching Artist, The Second City Detroit alum, Planet Ant legend, and all-around local treasure, Quintin Hicks.

CELEBRITY GUESTS!
The celebrity panel of liars is an exciting collection of notables. It includes: Craig Fahle (The Craig Fahle Show), Marc Evan Jackson (Brooklyn Nine-NineThe Good Place) Scott Landry (CEO YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit), Antoine McKay (EmpireRogers Park) & Paula Tutman (WDIV Local 4 / ClickOnDetroit Emmy Award-Winning Journalist)

WHAT IS THE LIAR'S CLUB? We're glad you asked...
Similar to the televised game show from the 1970’s, contestants must determine which of the celebrity panel are telling the truth. At this event, audience members can enter a drawing for a donation of $5 to be selected as a contestant and if they successfully choose the truth-teller, they will win a prize basket containing terrific giveaways of great local products and tickets to great local events.

The event will take place at the newly renovated Ant Hall in Hamtramck, thanks to Y Arts advisory board member and Planet Ant Theatre Executive Director, Darren Shelton.

$30 GA | $50 VIP

VIP tickets include: drink tickets, a VIP reception with a variety of food from great local restaurants, premium cabaret seats for the show, and a meet and greet with the celebrity guests.

Join us for a fun night for a great cause!

Not In My House | Ant Hall

Not In My House | Ant Hall

Planet Ant Theatre is thrilled to join forces with Kristi Faulkner Dance for the first annual Live Out Fest, featuring the world premiere of "Not In My House" as part of a three-day festival celebrating LGBTQ+ identity & freedom. Kicking off on National Coming Out Day, Live Out Fest is a tribute to the healing, liberating, revolutionary power of art to the LGBTQ+ community. Live Out seeks to bring the local community together from all corners of metro Detroit to celebrate and connect with one another through our collective commitment to stand in truth and consciously live out our most beautiful, authentic, queer selves - expressed through the creation and integration of art in all its forms. The festival features dance, music, spoken-word poetry, performance art, comedy, burlesque, and more from local artists and creatives in the LGBTQ+ community.

The connecting thread throughout the three days of the festival will be a nightly performance of "Not In My House," a collaboration between Kristi Faulkner Dance and the Ruth Ellis Center to engage and inspire LGBTQ+ youth and the Detroit community through performance and storytelling. "Not in My House" references the protective structure of families, known as "houses" within the vogue community, which represent belonging, security, and often replace biological families who disown LGBTQ+ youth. It is within these chosen families that LGBTQ+ youth learn to navigate the challenges of living in a world that often judges, fears, hurts, and very often harms LGBTQ+ individuals simply because of who they are. "Not in My House" is built on the premise that by sharing our stories, we create a world in which identity and difference can unite, rather than divide. This multi-year collaboration has resulted in the creation of an original live performance blending the aesthetics of vogue and contemporary dance to explore LGBTQ identity and challenge gender norms though the creative re-imagining of our coming out stories. Comprised entirely of artists identifying as LGBTQ+, "Not in My House" radically shifts the narrative about LGBTQ+ identity by placing the power in the hands of those who can tell their own stories with authenticity. "Not in My House" seeks to inspire and empower LGBTQ+ youth to live their truth by providing representation of queer voices, specifically queer voices of color, in a society that often silences and marginalizes those voices.

"Not In My House" runs approximately 60 minutes and will perform Thursday and Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 9pm, with carefully curated programming leading up to and following each performance.

Sept. 28 — Oct. 13 | Planet Ant Black Box

HALF-OFF OPENING NIGHT + SUNDAY PERFORMANCE!

Planet Ant Theatre presents a reboot of its 2014 original one-act horror spoof, The Dogman Prophecies, with a new prequel, Dogman Rising, in a “Dogman Double Feature”:

Dogman Prophecies
written by Jon-Mathew Canniff, Jaclynn Cherry, Moni Jones, Clint Lohman & Jason Petterson | directed by Jaclynn Cherry

"The Dogman Prophecies" tells the story of Billy Becker and his quest to find the Michigan Dogman and… kill him. Billy blames the mythical half-man/half-dog for the murder of his boyhood pet. Along the way, however, Billy gets caught up in the mayhem of a military experiment gone awry, which threatens his quest for justice — and potentially the lives of every person on the planet.

Featuring: Jaclynn Cherry, Michael Duprey, Nate Hudson, Moni Jones, and Caitlin Shea.

// // // // //

Dogman Rising
written by Jason Petterson & Shawn Handlon | directed by Jason Petterson

"Dogman Rising" is an original one-act comedy inspired by and prequel to "The Dogman Prophecies." "Dogman Rising" follows the story of Rex Lewis, host of a small podcast that chronicles sightings of the Michigan Dogman. During one such podcast, a mysterious fan calls in with a tip that sends Rex on a journey across the midwest to learn the truth about the origin of the Dogman. The journey takes a dangerous turn when Rex encounters resistance from a group of zealots who do not want the truth about the Dogman revealed.

Featuring: Nick Crestwood, Will Curry, Halina Matt, Andi Maziarz, Jon Miller and Sarah Wilder.

*** Rumor has it that the author will be present AND IN COSTUME himself; guests are strongly encouraged to do the same!

First published in 1995, STUPOR is Detroit's longest-running 'zine: "If you have fallen into a Stupor, something is wrong with you. You’re having trouble focusing. You’re drunk or high or just tired as hell. You’re staring off into space. It’s difficult to move your limbs. Your arms are heavy. Your legs are frozen or numb but definitely stuck. Stupor is a zine project by Steve Hughes. It’s dedicated to your inability to move forward or move at all. Each issue collects true stories from people Hughes meets, mostly from a barstool, mostly in the Detroit area. They drink. They talk. Hughes listens, and writes it all wrong. Later, when he’s happy with stories, he gives them to an artist who creates the visuals for each issue."

Tonight vs Everybody: Late-Night Stand-Up | Planet Ant Black BoxPresents:

Jessa Reed + Aaron Woodall LIVE!

A teen mom-turned-meth-addict-turned comedian, Jessa Reed tells raw and candid stories about about her past and her new life as a homeschooling housewife trying to blend in with the normal people. Her honesty is shocking, inspirational and not for the faint of heart. Jessa has been seen at clubs and festivals around the country, and made her stunning television debut this year on Comedy Central's "This Is Not Happening."

Once adored by mothers everywhere, Aaron Woodall is a nice young man coming to grips with a dirty, cynical world. As he finds out that love isn't real, God is dead, and beer doesn't even taste very good, Aaron effervescently shares his disillusions with a sense of wide-eyed excitement. Aaron's comedy has been seen on FOX, Hulu, and Fusion, and his first special is streaming now on Dry Bar Comedy.

They are indeed an unlikely pair. They have led two completely different lives. While Aaron was stopping strangers on the streets of Milan to teach them about Joseph Smith, Jessa was teaching dudes how to keister meth in Arby's bathrooms across Portland. In their respective routines, they each tackle topics like love, sex, drugs, and alcohol, but with polar opposite perspectives. Audiences get to see their world through Aaron's naive, innocent eyes as well as through Jessa's bleary, bloodshot ones.
