Mamacita & Vanilla Showgurt: A Spring Double Feature

  • Black Box 2357 Caniff Street Hamtramck, MI, 48212 United States (map)

April 5 — 20 | Planet Ant Black Box

Planet Ant presents a Spring Double Feature!

TWO SHOWS for the price of.... two shows:

"Mamacita" by Emilio Rodriguez

Mamacita is a new play that explores the challenges and triumphs of maintaining an intercultural relationship in America. When the charismatic, "Barrio Boy" Ricky and shy, romantic poet Bianca fall in love, they embark on a journey of obstacles and successes that serve as a metaphor for the too often unexplored race relations of Black and Latino communities. And when a baby is added into the mix, the two must take a closer look at their relationships and themselves.

"Mamacita" stars Detroit actors Kayla Mundy and Justino Solis and is written by Detroit area playwright and 2018 Kresge recipient, Emilio Rodriguez. "Mamacita" was selected for the Lark's 2016 Playwrights Week in New York and was featured in the 2016 Great Plains Conference in Omaha, Nebraska and the 2016 Austin New Latino Play Festival in Austin, Texas.
