True Blue EP Release Show!
"Expression is a funny thing. For Berry, it’s much easier to communicate through instruments. Reoccuring themes in her songs are depression, insomnia, and betrayal or deception. She has always had a strange relationship with dreamlike states of mind and a fascination with the dark side of human nature. So, she writes about those things because they are familiar to her, but considers the words a necessary evil. The music has always been the main thing, the prime method of her expression. She wants to make people feel, not think. But while the words may not be the focus, they do help graft an opposing message to the otherwise upbeat surface of the songs, resulting in multi-layered tunes with latent meanings.
It is this which is captured on her first solo release, out on cassette this August. Berry on guitar, bass, and vocals is joined by Dina Bankole (PRIM, Casual Sweetheart) on drums, with Fred Thomas (Saturday Looks Good To Me) as the recording engineer. The next step is a tour, with another EP to come next year. The future is bright – and exceedingly true."
