Planet Ant isn't just any theatre—it's a legendary Detroit 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a 30-year legacy of fostering creativity, laughter, and community.

From its humble beginnings, Some of Metro Detroit’s most talented individuals have called Planet Ant home, including… Sam Richardson (Veep), Jaime Moyer (Bobs Burgers), Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave) and Keegan Michael Key (Key & Peele).

Now, we're inviting you to be part of this rich history by sharing your skills and knowledge with our diverse community.

It's our strong belief that you don't necessarily need to be deemed an expert by someone to impart wisdom. No matter how long you're been doing improv, acting, writing, or any other creative discipline, there's a place for you at Level Up! Skill Fest. We take ego out of the learning equation and celebrate every instructor’s unique point of view.

Choose the level you’d like to teach and you'll be given a slot for a workshop of your own design and up to 50%* of whatever the proceeds are.

* Participants may choose to donate part or all of their proceeds to our non profit. Donated classes are marked with a badge.

    Once approved, we make sure the date, price, title and description works for both of us.

    We list you in the festival, give you a purchase link, a graphic for promotion, and spread the word via our marketing.

    We communicate with students, take care of purchases, and set up the space.

    You teach your workshop with us

    We give you up to 50% of your workshop price per student via direct deposit.

  • Once you arrive to teach we take care of the rest. Our volunteers help direct students, get spaces ready, take pictures, and introduce you.

  • Sure! Submit away and we’ll figure it out.

  • Workshops can be multi part. Individual sessions can be 1-4 hours. 2 or 3 hours tend to be the most common.

  • We do. Some spaces have projectors, some have TV’s, some are actual stages with lights, sound and everything you’d need.

  • From a black box theater, a standup venue, all the way to a main hall theater. We also have a studio location, and locations suitable for more laid back instruction. At any time we have up to 7 locations available for use.

  • Planet Ant is a 501(c)(3) non-profit professional theatre that’s been going strong in Hamtramck MI for over 30 years.

    We’ve worked with luminaries Keegan Michael Key (Key and Peele), Sam Richardson (Veep), Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave), and more! The Planet ant Training Center is part of the larger organization and has been operational since 1993.

  • Decide on a split with us.

    We are happy to split up to 50/50 with you for your sales.

    If you give 100 percent to us we’ll give you a sticker on your graphic that lets our attendees know that you’re a donor to the ant.

    You’ll be given a link to our vendor page where you’ll sign up for direct deposit.

    After teaching we count up the students that signed up for your event, divide it by our split and subtract any discounts.

    Within 5 business days you’ll get a direct deposit in the account you provided when you signed up at our Vender page.

    Nothing above works as well as having you share, comment, and interact. Help us make sure we fill your workshop with as many students as possible.

  • Book a spot in our Friday Saturday slots for a performance. You could have your students perform something you just taught them, you can join our instructor jam, you can book a ted style talk to the stage, there’s lots of options and we’re looking forward to hearing what you’d like to do.

  • Easy peasy! The week leading up to the day of your workshop, you will receive an email containing a few details, such as directions to your location, arrival time, and any special instructions.

    Within that email you will also get contact information for the volunteer(s) who will be helping facilitate that day. They’ll be on site to help out with anything you need.

  • Coming from out of town? Have no fear! We also have solutions and places around where you can stay!

    Planet Ant BNB - We have two lockable rooms we provide free of charge to select instructors

    Air BNB - There are several very reasonable priced Air BNB’s in Hamtramck.

    Downtown

    If you’re feeling fancy, get a nice hotel in downtown Detroit. We’re minutes away.

Proceeds from Level Up Skill Fest are designed to benefit teaching artists and Planet Ant Theatre (a 501(c)3 Nonprofit). It’s our sincere effort to work towards helping unite performing arts communities and to strengthen the voice of artists everywhere.
